BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – P.C. Drouin scored one goal and added two assists to lead the Fort Wayne Komets to a 4-1 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder before 2,942 people Friday night in International Hockey League action at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The loss dropped the PrairieThunder record to 25-23-2-5 (57 points), while Fort Wayne improved to 35-16-1-2 (73 points). Bloomington returns to action Sunday with a 4:05 p.m. game at Quad City.
Drouin scored the game’s first goal on an unassisted effort midway through the initial period. Guy Dupuis put the Komets ahead, 2-0, four minutes later on a power play off assists by Drouin and Sean O’Connor.
Bloomington’s Robin Gomez cut the deficit to 2-1 with 6:51 left in the second period with a power play goal on assists by Jamie Carroll and Jason Lepine. Fort Wayne’s Bobby Phillips countered with a goal four minutes later on an assist by Drouin.
The Komets’ final goal came on a rebound effort by Matt Syroczynski off assists by Kaleigh Schrock and Colin Chaulk with 3:58 left in the game. The Komets owned a 28-27 advantage in shots and were 1 for 4 on the power play.
Bloomington was 1 for 6 on the power play. Nick Boucher was the winning goalie, stopping 27 of 28 shots. Sebastian Dahm was the losing goalie for the PrairieThunder with 24 stops on 28 shots.
