Matt is in his second season with the PrairieThunder. He joined the team 21 games into the 2008-09 season after starting the year with the Amarillo Gorillas of the CHL where he played 16 games. Matt is the oldest and most experienced player on the team. He started his professional career with the Richmond Renegades in the ECHL in 2001-02.


He has played three seasons with the San Angelo Saints of the CHL; and one season each with Corpus Christi, New Mexico Scorpions and Rocky Mountain Rage of the CHL. During his eight-year pro career, Matt has played 481 games with 27 goals and 115 assists for 142 points with 340 penalty minutes.


Matt has played 30 games in the CHL playoffs with San Angelo in 2003-04 and 2004-05 and with New Mexico in 2006-07. He played in the CHL championship series with New Mexico. He has six assists in playoff competition.


Matt played in the CHL All-Star game in 2005 and was named the top defenseman for San Angelo in 2004 and 2005. He also was voted as the recipient of the Rob Guinn Memorial Award as the top defenseman for the PrairieThunder last season. The award was named after Matt’s former teammate and friend (Rob Guinn), who was fatally injured in an automobile accident in July, 2008.


He had three goals and six assists with the PrairieThunder last year for nine points. He played one game with the Iowa Chops of the AHL on call-up last season. He is a 2001 graduate of Lake Superior State University where he earned a degree in criminology/sociology. He also was a four-year letterman in hockey, playing in 115 games and scoring 11 points on five goals and six assists.


Matt was a member of the Team USA Select 16 team in 1993 that won the silver medal. He also was on the Little Caesar’s team that won the 1991 bantam national championship.
