Matthew, a veteran of 68 National Hockey League games, was signed by the PrairieThunder on Dec. 10, 2009. He was the No. 31 pick in the second round of the 2001 NHL draft by the Phoenix Coyotes. Matthew began his pro career with the Coyotes in the 2003-04 season, playing 51 games.
He played the following year with the Springfield Falcons in the AHL before heading to the Utah Grizzlies of the AHL in 2004-05 where he was a teammate of PrairieThunder coach Jarrod Skalde. Matthew returned to the NHL briefly in 2005-06, playing eight games, after starting the year with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL.
Matthew played nine games in the NHL in 2007-08 after starting the season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
He played last year with the Lowell Devils of the AHL and enjoyed his most productive offensive season by scoring two goals with 11 assists for 13 points.
